Capsicum annuum ‘Manganji Togarashi’ (Chilli) Seed

Category:
Description Capsicum annuum ‘Manganji Togarashi’ chilli peppers are a Japanese variety belonging to the Solanaceae or nightshade family. They are also known as the King of Peppers in Japan. The hybrid peppers were developed in Japan in the 20th century and were favoured among growers for their mild taste, elongated nature, and fleshy texture. Manganji chilli peppers are a small to medium-sized varietal, averaging 10 to 23cm in length and 2 to 5cm in diameter. They have an elongated, slender conical shape. The pods can be curved or straight and have small, slightly creased shoulders that taper to a distinct point on the non-stem end. Most Manganji chilli peppers are mild, but they can be random, some have a slight kick to them, which can come as a surprise! These chillies are customarily eaten while green and plump. If they are left on the plant to ripen, the green peppers will become red, and are then known as Akamanganji in fresh Japanese markets. Manganji chilli peppers have a mild, earthy taste suited for raw and cooked culinary preparations. It is recommended to pierce the peppers before cooking them whole, as the peppers may explode if they become too hot. A great sweet snack, fried or grilled.   Germination. To germinate Capsicum annuum ‘Manganji Togarashi’ seeds, sow in light, well-drained soil medium. Keep in a warm location at a temperature of at least 16 C until the seeds sprout in 16 to 20 days. Keep moist, but not wet.   Disclaimer: We personally count every seed packet to ensure it contains at least the specified number of seeds.
